The creation of a fine
art portrait of a pet begins with a visit to meet the pet, to see the
pet in its home environment, and to learn the personality of the pet.
My method is to observe the pet, to talk to its owner, and to get to
know and appreciate the pet on its own terms. It will be important for
me to know its moods, its favorite times of day. The process of the
pet and I knowing and liking each other, and my having learned it’s
responses is fundamental to the creation of memorable portraits.
During this visit I will be prepared to show samples
of my work, to discuss my fees, and to explain how I work on the day
of the photography. As well, we can discuss issues of styling and grooming,
space and time requirements. If people are to be included we’ll
need to think about a photography time when both pets and people are
at their best, and the coordination of styling.
On the day of the photography, after I have set up
my portable studio equipment, we’ll want to create a number of
pictures that explore the personalities and relationships of all that
are involved. Once finalized selections are made I will personally make
beautiful, classical fine art prints that meet the highest of archival
and museum standards. We can then work together on the issues of mounting
and framing, always within the highest of aesthetic standards to make
these elegant portraits both a beautiful homage to a loved pet, and
a beautiful addition to a home.
